French Study Says Organic Food is Healthier

Date : 06/01/2009All our pigs spend their lives outside in small family groups on our organic pasture – they get quite a bit of veg too! It makes for happy pigs and fantastic pork. Order on line or phone for chilled (maybe frozen depending on timings) delivery with your veg box or by special arrangement. All meat is packed in poly boxes with ice packs which are designed to keep fresh meat at correct temperature for 24 hours or remain frozen. All fully butchered. Joints are boned and rolled and vacuum packed. You can specify preferred size of joint or ‘bone in’ if you prefer.

This is the time of year many of us to make New Year's resolutions, most of which are to improve our life's - one resolution that is near the top of the list is to eat healthily and be slimmer.

Date : 14/07/2008Rain - Having just finished reading a book called the 'Right Attitude to Rain' I'm having difficulty with this concept!! Whilst it isn't fun being in a constant deluge of water waiting for the River Swale to burst it's banks again - there are one or two benefits. From our perspective it has brought on our new potatoes nicely which are being harvested this week!. Having said this, for keen gardeners everywhere the constant rain means watching your own gardens and allotments taking a hammering (particularly the roses).

Firstly we want to say a very big thank you to the Telegraph Stella magazine for voting us one of six of the very best box schemes in the UK. We were astounded and delighted to find our little farm there with the multi million pound national schemes. It makes the relentless hard work worth it and a huge sense of achievement.

Prices range from £9.40/kg for 5-7kg birds down to £6.85/kg for 9+kg birds. £10 deposit is required and there is a £5 delivery charge for veg box customers, £10 for others. Orders to be placed by 1st December at the latest if you possibly can. Existing Veg customers a delivery charge of £5 applies, otherwise there will be a delivery charge of £10. Alternatively you can collect subject to prior arrangement. All meats will be delivered week commencing 18th December.

As most Christmas trees are being cut now for delivery to shops, some can be nearly 3 months old by the time you reach the end of the festive period. Why not visit the farm and choose your own tree as close to Christmas as you like, giving you a fresh tree over the Christmas period. Once you've choosen the tree you like we'll either cut it or dig up with the roots. This is a great fun for the kids, my two love going out to 'pick the tree'!!! Our Organic Roast Pork sandwiches are really gaining a reputation as a fantastic meal and we've been asked to provide the catering at Castle Howard for the Cancer Research 10k run in Oct. I'm sure many of you know about the issues surrounding chemicals sprayed on veg and the potential carcinogenic impact this may have, we are very honoured to have been asked to be involved. Particularly as organic food cannot have these chemical applications applied, it is fitting for organic food to be available at this event. As a thank you to Cancer Research, I put some of their advertising details in your boxes a couple of weeks ago in the hope that many of you will support this extremely important organisation. I am also asking if you could dig deep in your pockets and look to sponsor a friend of ours, Neal Stock, who is running in the event.

It also looks at who should pay compensation when the 0.9% GM tolerance level is breached. Given that GM crops are grown elsewhere in the EU, it is thought that there may be commercial cultivation of GM crops in the UK by 2009

The office closes on Friday 23rd December, although we'll be delivering right up to Christmas eve to make sure everybody has their orders by Christmas. There will be NO delivery between Christmas and New Year - you may place internet orders and they will be delivered when the office re-opens on 3rd January 2006.
